5 Pinch Pleat Styles For Making Curtains

It almost doesn’t matter what style of curtain you are making… the steps are all the same. So, if you’re planning on making pinch pleats, but are undecided on the style of pleat… don’t worry about it right away.

You can still sew your curtain. Creating the pleats is the very last step.

If you’re planning on making pinch pleat drapes… what style pleat are you going to make?

There are 5 common styles of pinch pleats you can choose from!

1. The triple pinch pleat… this is a pleat made like a fan with 3 pleats… pinched at the base. If you pinch it at the top it becomes a french pleat.

2. The butterfly pleat… also know as a double pleat. This is a pleat pinched at the bottom with only 2 pleats. It fans out like a butterfly.

3. The goblet pleat… this a pleat that is pinched at the base and the fabric is shaped like a cylinder… creating a goblet shape.

4. The box pleat… instead of pinching the fabric, you will simply flatten the fabric and tack the corners to the top edge of your drape. This is a more contemporary look.

5. The inverted pleat… also known as an inverted box pleat. This is the exact same pleat as the box pleat except that the seam for the pleat is on the front of the drape and the pleat is on the back of the heading.

So, many wonderful choices and all very easy to make!
