After you’ve measured your window and bought your fabric… found your pattern or instructions… there is one thing you MUST do before you start making your curtains.
It’s such a simple step and yet most people skip right over it, thinking it can wait until the end.
You MUST install your drapery hardware first. Yes… now.
Why?
I can’t tell you the number of times that I have made my curtains first… and then installed the hardware. Guess what happened.
My curtains were usually too short… and in one instance touched the floor that made the curtains bunch up funny.
Has this happened to you?
Well… if it hasn’t then make sure it doesn’t. Install your drapery hardware on to your window before you do any final measuring or cutting. The hardware almost always ends up at a different height than you may have expected. Plus, a few times I’ve realized that the drapery pole can’t be as wide as I expected because of a wall that’s too close to the window… or I didn’t take into consideration the bracket placement… or the finials I chose were too big. Better to find these things out early and not waste a lot of expensive fabric.
Once the hardware is installed… then you can get the final measurements for the width and height.
